An Average Day of researching.....

When it comes to thinking about researching I kind of chuckle when I think of mine. My researching can come in many forms. You see, I do social media for a local nonprofit in my area. That’s my paid part time position. I also am the social media coordinator for the Unitarian Universalist Church I go to and that is a volunteer position. At the very least I spend an hour finding content. I try to find pictures, video, quotes, or stories of interest. In addition to doing the social media content I need to actually stay on top of trends IN social media so I try to find free eBooks or things that I can try to use to help me.
Besides being in social media I’m also a web developer. So any content that isn’t given directly to me from the client (in this case the same nonprofit and church) I come up with myself. This includes looking up design ideas for slides for one of the sites.
When I’m not looking up things for work than I sometimes have to search for things for school. This usually involves Math because Math and I are simply not friends. If I’m not looking anything for school then I get to look up things that interest me which could be anything to be honest. Sometimes I look up lyrics to songs I’m listening to. If I’m interested in a movie or a new restaurant to go eat I might read reviews online and research that. Then there are the times that someone will tell me about something—usually about history and neat facts and then I will sit on Wikipedia forever researching about whatever was told to me and its related components.

So in short, these are my research habits.

  1. You seem to be pretty busy! I love how you go above and beyond for your volunteer work. One hour out of your busy day dedicated to research for a volunteering position deserves recognition. I wonder what kind of math research you do online! I struggle helping my son with it because it seems that nowadays, they change the methodology of things and this mom is lost!

  2. You seem to always be on the move. I like how you talk about having more ways to gather information then just pressing your thumbs to a screen. Another thing that you an i can relate on is math and looking it up, i tend to always find myself looking up how to use a formula or see an example! One great thing that will help you with math is the great free app called Mathway! Very easy to use and very helpful. Great post, Short sweet and to the point.

  3. "Math and I are simply not friends" sounds like me :)
Your blog reminded that I forgot to include that I am constantly looking up reviews for anything I want to do whether it's eat at a restaurant or travel. It is a great way to make "better decisions" when purchasing something on line. It's not to say that what you purchase or eat or travel to will be perfect because of someone else's review but it definitely helps.

  4. You seem to always be busy, and I like how you want to use technology for purposes of research. Technology is a tool that is to be used, but often times people use it in the wrong way. Technology is to be used for the purpose of finding information, so that we can use it to expand our knowledge about the world. I am the same way, and I like to use technology for recreational use also.

  5. I agree with others. You seem to be busy. I think it's cool you get paid to work social media. Where do you usually go online to get help for math? Anything particular? Also, be careful using Wikipedia! Anyone can edit Wikipedia's pages.

  6. I feel like an insider because I'm a part of your social media as well as the things you put out for the church. It is exciting to see the views from your searches. If I could get English as well you do, I'd better student. Math is my friend, and English is something I speak and write poorly!
